Consultants hired by the Clearwater City Council have unveiled their first draft for a thoroughly revitalized downtown waterfront. The plan is titled “Imagine Clearwater,” and would make for some exciting additions to Clearwater’s colorful beach vibe.
You may see some big changes as you visit Bamboo Beach Club Resort in the upcoming years.
Here are some of the proposed features:

Natural strolling garden and playground added to Coachman Park

“The Green”, a space for larger activities, which would also have a picnic grove and a promenade for events like the Pierce Street Market.

A march garden in the cove under the Memorial Causeway with link paths for biking and walking to the slope of the bluff and the Cleveland Street district.

Splash pad and pavilion to replace the Harborview Center

Gateway linking downtown to the bluff and waterfront surrounded by cafes, restaurants and retail

Rooftop event space and café added to the Main Library

New housing to attract people to live downtown

Plans for an aerial transit infrastructure (perhaps along the lines of the gondola cable car pitched earlier)
The plans are in their early stages, and City Council members are gathering the responses of local residents before giving their own verdict.
Clearwater Mayor George Cretekos told the Tampa Bay Times the draft plan is “a solid framework for what the city has been trying for decades to achieve.”
The revitalization plan is one part of a much bigger plan to bring the city’s retail, restaurant and event space to a level rivaling nearby cities like St. Petersburg and Tampa.
We think Clearwater’s pretty great, but we love to see new things on the horizon!
